First blog entry

Hi everyone. My name is Bill Guyton and I am the President of the World Cocoa Foundation. I’ll be blogging frequently on topics that are of interest to many people, including how cocoa makes it way from the tree to your table.

I’m also blogging to announce our new Web site; it has a completely different look and feel along with more information about things like how the World Cocoa Foundation makes a difference in the lives of cocoa farmers and how our programs promote responsible, sustainable farming the world over.

You might find me blogging about topics like the very good news about a “healthy communities” program we are supporting with our partners in West Africa under the leadership of the Sustainable Tree Crops Program (STCP) which will provide support to over 150,000 small-scale family farmers.

But one important note: this site isn’t just about us; it’s about you too. So please feel free to post your comments, feedback and thoughts. This blog is moderated, so please be respectful of your fellow readers.

Regards,
Bill

I think it's great that the cocoa industry has finally talked about important issues like the plight and conditions of African farmers. Congratuations.

ADETAYO ADEWALE:

Dear Bill Guyton,

I wish to congratulate you on the new WCF website and your first blog entry. This innovation will definately provide an interactive forum between your organisation and various professionals in the cocoa industry worldwide, paricularly in West Africa .
There is no doubt that WCF is making great positive impact in the lives of cocoa farmers in west africa through STCP,IACC, IFESH,but we still need more of your assistance in Nigeria.
The farmers feild school is already making impact in the country, but we still need IFESH programmes in cocoa communities and partnership programmes of big cocoa processing companies and farmers cooperatives to boost cocoa quality.
I have been working closely with cocoa farmers in the country,in september 2005, I organised a workshop in Ogun State on Methods of improved production, farm rehabilitation, quality control, for sustainnable cocoa development and marketing, with technical input from cocoa reseach institute of Nigeria . it may interest you to hear that over 2000 cocoa farmers were in attendance. I will be sending to you the video recording in my subsequent discussion .
